The historic city of Kurashiki in Okayama Prefecture, central Japan is a popular tourist destination. Its Bikan merchant quarter is famous for its fine Edo Period (1603-1868) and Meiji Period (1868-1912) architecture. Kurashiki prospered as a logistics hub thanks to the river running through the town. The Bikan area is home to many cafes and shops, and the Ohara Museum of Art, Japan's first private art museum. There is also a museum dedicated to Okayama legendary hero "Momotaro".
